End of Life Planning

End of life planning is not just about old age. Anyone over 18 years of age is advised to have completed these documents.  Note that the Circle of Friends can assist you in filling out end of life documents.

Placing your affairs in order ensures that your wishes will be fulfilled and that you will not be a burden on your family or friends.

There are three major areas of end-of-life planning:

1. CA Advance Health Care Directive: Records decisions regarding your health care, appoints agents if you cannot make decisions yourself and specifies your burial wishes.  Obtain document from Circle of Friends.

2. CA Statutory Will or Trust planning with an attorney: Creates a document which names your executor and indicates to whom you wish to leave your possessions and appoints guardians for your minor children. This simple will is recommended only if your assets are under $180,000, you do not own any real estate or if you don't have any minor children.  If any of the above three apply to you, then you need an attorney to create a Living Trust.  This avoids lengthy and expensive probate and ensures that your wishes are fulfilled.

3.  Personal Arrangements Guide: provides information for a death certificate, gives practical information to your agents and executors and it states your wishes regarding your funeral.

The Circle of Friends can assist you in filling out these three documents.
